Saru Kanapathipillai is one of 65+ legal tech entrepreneurs from 12+ countries who have developed their proof-of-concept into a market-ready solution through The Legal Innovation Zone’s (LIZ) pre-accelerator program, Sprint Studio. From product and customer development to crafting effective marketing strategies, our Sprint Studio program guides participants through key steps to successfully take their solutions to market.

Curious about how Sprint Studio can set legal tech founders up for a successful startup launch? Hear from a recent Sprint Studio graduate as they share their experience and reflections on how the program supported their company’s journey.

Saru Kanapathipillai (external link)  first joined the LIZ’s Concept Framework program in early 2024 to validate his business idea for PR Coach (external link) . Through the program, he not only confirmed that his solution was viable but also developed a strong proof-of-concept. Finding immense value in Concept Framework, Saru saw Sprint Studio as the natural next step — an opportunity to refine his proof-of-concept and transform it into a market-ready solution. Later that year, he joined the 5th cohort of Sprint Studio to take PR Coach to the next level.

Upon program completion, Saru successfully applied to join the LIZ’s Incubation Program, where he is continuing to build PR Coach. Now in the market with early sales, he has successfully turned his idea into a growing legal tech business. We caught up with Saru to hear about his experience on at Sprint Studio, how the program supported his startup’s development, as well as his advice to other entrepreneurs. Listen to Saru’s insights:

Read Saru's responses below, as transcribed from his interview:

Tell us a little bit about your startup

Hey it's Saru, I'm the founder of PR Coach. We are building a solution to assess people across 60+ permanent residency pathways, so every single permanent residency pathway that exists out there.

What led you to apply for Sprint Studio?

We were part of the Fall 2024 Sprint Studio Cohort. I was initially a part of the [Concept Framework] Program, found a lot of value in [the] weekly sessions, especially getting to talk to founders. There's a lot of great content out there on YouTube. You watch videos from Y Combinator and other founders, but rarely do you get to talk to founders and have a two-way conversation, especially those that are in a similar space that are just ahead of you by a few years, so I found it incredibly helpful.

What key insights or lessons from the program did you find the most impactful?

A few takeaways for me from those [Sprint Studio] sessions were just experiment, just constantly experimenting. Whatever hypothesis you have, test it out, see if it's real, actively seek feedback that disconfirms your belief. Sometimes, it's comforting to try to stay within what you want to believe. But hearing past founders, it was clear that the better path was to seek perspectives that disconfirm your beliefs so you know how to act moving forward. And the other was just to stay lean to stay alive. And those who stay alive the longest often will find a path to building a strong company.

Who would you recommend the program to?

I would recommend Sprint Studio for any curious founders that want to be part of a community. If you want to be a part of a community, I find LIZ founders [and alumni] are incredible. They are willing to give. They’re generous with their time. They are very transparent, give a lot of honest feedback. And these are folks that you can grow with and learn from.
