August 27, 2025 – Toronto, ON The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University (opens in new window) , through its professional learning hub Creative School Pro, is proud to announce a new partnership with the Creative City Network of Canada (external link, opens in new window)  (CCNC) to deliver the Municipal Event Management Workshop Series (MEMWS). This five-part professional development program is designed for municipal staff, cultural coordinators, and community organizers across Canada.

The program equips participants with the skills to plan, execute, and manage public cultural events — from concerts and parades to festivals and community celebrations. Launching at the 2025 Creative City Summit in Kingston, Ontario, the series blends in-person and virtual workshops. Participants who complete all five workshops will earn a CCNC Certificate of Completion, formally recognizing their expertise as Event Management Coordinators or Managers.

“This workshop series represents a unique opportunity for municipalities and event professionals across Canada to strengthen their capacity, build networks, and develop innovative approaches to community event planning,” says Michael Carter, Director, Creative School Pro, The Creative School, TMU.

The first workshop, Municipal Event Advisory Committees, will be held October 6, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Kingston Marriott. Led by Rebecca Cotter, M.A., PMP, participants will explore how municipal event advisory committees (MEACs) enhance interdepartmental collaboration, streamline event permitting, and align community celebrations with municipal priorities.

Registration is now open. Full program details, session topics, and speaker announcements will be available at: https://www.torontomu.ca/the-creative-school/professional-development/event-management/
