Professor Hossein Rahnama appointed Edward S. Rogers Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Human Creativity
With a background in computer science and over 50 publications and 16 patents in ubiquitous computing, Dr. Hossein Rahnama (opens in new window) has made a name for himself in today’s digital world. Most recently, the RTA School of Media (opens in new window) professor has been appointed as the Edward S. Rogers Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Human Creativity, where he’ll continue his pioneering work and lead initiatives that will shape the future of creative AI.
Rahnama, co-founder of the DMZ (opens in new window) and CEO and founder of the digital experience company Flybits (external link, opens in new window) , brings a long-standing commitment to innovation at the nexus of artificial intelligence, media and human creativity. Recognized by the MIT Technology Review (external link, opens in new window) as one of the world’s top innovators under 35, his new role marks a major investment in creative AI leadership and highlights the university's ambition to become a leader and advance research and education in the emerging field.
As chair, Rahnama will lead pioneering research efforts in AI and human creativity, publishing and disseminating high-impact work that will contribute to both academic and industry dialogues. During his five-year term, he’ll represent the faculty - and the broader university - on a global stage, strengthening ties with national and international partners, industry professionals, scholars and government leaders engaged in AI policy and development.
Rahnama’s appointment will play a central role in expanding The Creative School’s Creative AI Hub (opens in new window) , mentoring colleagues and developing new infrastructure to support research and innovation. He will also contribute to curriculum development, including the creation of an undergraduate minor in Creative AI and providing graduate supervision.
In addition to guiding research and pedagogy, Rahanma will serve as a strategic advisor to The Creative School and TMU as a whole, collaborating with senior leadership and other research chairs to help shape the university’s long-term vision of creativity and artificial intelligence.
