Professional Music’s first graduates take the stage
The Professional Music (opens in new window) program marked a major milestone this spring as its first graduating cohort crossed the convocation stage. The graduating students became the first to complete Canada’s only interdisciplinary undergraduate degree in professional music. Located in the heart of Canada’s music sector, this program prioritizes building skills in performance, production, and the business of music. Program Director Charlie Wall-Andrews notes the significance of the moment, saying, “It’s an incredible milestone…to see graduates already acquire industry jobs, while others are pursuing entrepreneurial pathways as professional artists.”

Throughout their studies, students completed 240-hour internships, connected with industry leaders through exclusive speaker series, and participated in hands-on opportunities, including a two-week Nashville intensive (opens in new window) and year-end showcase. “One of my biggest takeaways was the networking and connections,” says graduate Carina Bianchini, who also credits the program for building foundational knowledge in copyright, contracts, and production tools. This cohort also left a groundbreaking legacy defined by leadership, creativity, and community, having founded the Professional Music Course Union and contributed to forward-looking curriculum development.
