Amplifying Indigenous voices through film: Derek Sands' All Sacred Things
Doc Media alum and current Media and Design Innovation PhD student Derek Sands' work revolves around amplifying marginalized voices through documentary filmmaking. His latest film, All Sacred Things, an official selection at the prestigious Red Nation International Film Festival in Los Angeles this fall, exemplifies this commitment. This documentary amplifies Indigenous voices through deep dialogues, shared experiences, and respectful silence, allowing community narratives to shape the film. By doing so, Sands challenges colonial power dynamics and highlights the power of listening in storytelling. Watch his interview video below to learn more about his approach.
