FCAD launches Ryerson Creative Academy

New summer experience offers high school students unique opportunities
February 18, 2020

FCAD’s new Ryerson Creative Academy, offering local and international high school students unique opportunities in creative education, is accepting  its first cohort of students for its summer intensive programs. Two programs launching this summer include the Creators Program, which allows students to explore a creative field at FCAD, and the GEMS Program, which offers international students the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, zone learning and idea incubation. During these intensive two-week experiences, students will be immersed in university-style education and will have the chance to engage in a new student community and global network.

“The novel programming offered at the academy will provide unparalleled opportunities for young students around the world who are looking to build careers in the creative industries,” said FCAD Dean, Charles Falzon.

The academy is open to high school students entering their sophomore, junior and senior years, with the GEMS program offered exclusively to students enrolled in GEMS (Global Education Management Systems) Education programs. This new programming supports FCAD’s initiatives to foster international knowledge sharing and cross-pollination of innovative education.

As a part of the Creators program at the Ryerson Creative Academy, students will have the chance to explore one of six creative paths in fashion, performance, journalism, media production, interior design or graphic communications management.

All students who join the Ryerson Creative Academy have the opportunity to live on campus, access Ryerson University’s resources and engage in programming led by industry elites. During the two-week experience, students will tackle both theoretical and hands-on learning opportunities through lectures, workshops, demonstrations and local field trips.

“The academy hosts the ultimate summer experience for creative minds,” said Ryerson Creative Academy’s Program Leader, Andrea Romero. “From daily activities to connections made during the two-week program, student participants will realize their potential in the creative fields and leave the program with new insights, friendships and a key portfolio piece.”

The new Ryerson Creative Academy, emerging from FCAD’s creative ecosystem, will be an integral actor in moulding the future of creative education for younger students.
