EDC Access for Undergrad Students in the Winter 2024 Term Ended on April 26th

EDC access for undergraduate students enrolled in courses during the 2024 Winter Term has ended. Only students enrolled in Creative School courses that run in the Spring/Summer 2024 Term are eligible to use EDC equipment and facilities.

Patron Liability

All students must fill out the EDC Liability & Policy Form before they can borrow resources from the EDC. The Liability Form is for students to acknowledge that they are accepting responsibility for the resources they are borrowing and acknowledging the consequences if they are not adhered to. Students must complete the form themselves.

Please note that filling out the EDC Liability & Policy Form does not inherintly grant students access to equipment or facilities. It only acknowledges that the Patron is aware of the EDC Libaility and Usage Policies. Below is a summary of what patrons will acknowledge when completing the EDC Liability & Policy Form.

Patrons understand that they are solely responsible for the resources they have checked out under their name. Patrons are responsible for paying the full amount of any replacement or repair costs and/or insurance deductibles for any instances of loss, theft or damage to equipment or facilities while in their possession, including concealed or unreported damage discovered after return. Patrons will accept sole financial responsibility for resources they have checked out as an individual, and proportional responsibility as a group member for items checked out by a group.

Resources are considered to be in a patron's possession:

(a) From the time the items or facilities are checked out from the EDC until the time that they are checked in & thoroughly gear checked by a member of the EDC staff

(b) Or while patrons are using the items or facilities as part of a facilitated course

Patrons understand it is their responsibility to check all resources immediately upon checkout.

Patrons are to report any equipment found to be missing from their checkout, damaged or not functioning to EDC staff before leaving the EDC vicinity.

Patrons are to report any missing, damaged, or not functioning equipment in facilities to the EDC. Patrons are to report any facility that has been left in an unstable or messy state to the EDC right away.

Patrons understand that the EDC will automatically send emails to their Ryerson email account and that it is the Patron's responsibility to check their emails.

Emails will be sent out automatically when:

Reservations:

  • A reservation is made
  • 1 day before scheduled reservation start
  • 30 minutes before scheduled reservation start
  • A reservation is picked up or a checkout is made
  • 1 day before scheduled checkout return time
  • 3 hours before scheduled checkout return time
  • 1 hour before scheduled checkout return time
  • 20 minutes before scheduled checkout return time
  • 1 minute after scheduled checkout return time
  • 20 minutes after scheduled checkout return time
  • 1 hour after scheduled checkout return time, every hour 3 hours
  • 1 day scheduled checkout return time, every day for 3 days

In summary, if a reservation is made more than 24 hours in advance that would result in 4 emails up to checkout. From checkout to an item being returned on time, that would result in 1-4 emails. By the time a checkout is late and has a $100 fine, a patron would have received 6 to 10 emails stating the return time.

Patrons agree that when their checkout involves using the Keytracer system, all policies of a in person checkout apply. Patrons are responsible for the facility they are using and will return all facilities to their original state when done.

Patrons accept that failure to return the keys/cards by the end time of the checkout will result in a fine in accordance with the Fine Policy. Failure to return the key will result in the replacement cost of lock and key, and/or loss of access to the facility.

Patrons will not pass the access key or card to another patron. The key/access card must be returned to the Keytracer cabinet before the end time of the checkout.

While the EDC does not charge for borrowing items, there are fines due to late returns, damaged items, lost & stolen items, and improper usage fines. Details can be found on the EDC Fine Policy page.

Equipment renewals are not guaranteed and all equipment must be available for return at the stated return time.

Due to COVID-19, all renewal requests must be submitted via e-mail one business day in advance of the scheduled return time.

Reservations will automatically cancel after 30 minutes if not picked up in time. See Reservations for more details.
