Call for Submissions
A peer-reviewed journal that strives to cultivate ongoing, multi-directional conversations beyond traditional publication boundaries, RUBIX serves as a space for sharing various creative research and emerging scholarly dialogues, encompassing both text and practice-based approaches, while facilitating the exchange of knowledge among different communities of practice.
Featuring ongoing, open issues on timely topics alongside thematic issues, we aim to elevate the visibility of practice-based research and creative researchers by providing a platform for those not widely represented within traditional scholarly publications. We accept a diverse range of creative research: from academic papers, poetry, experiments with text and image, and sound works, to photography, performances, photo essays, visual art, and video. All submissions, regardless of form, are taken through a peer-review process.
RUBIX telescopes on creativity as a critical framework with a particular interest in practice-based research and artistic activity as a form of knowledge creation. We invite submissions on creative research and practice for its first open call. Accepted submissions will be featured online on an ongoing basis with the deadline for this issue being September 15th, 2024. Please see the submission guidelines for more details on formatting and file requirements.
Call for Papers: Creative Co-Resilience and Black Flourishing
What ways of knowing, living, and transforming emerge through creative practices in Black contexts, particularly those influenced by Black ways of being and scholarships across the arts, creative industries, health sciences, communication, education, and related fields? How do these practices invoke creative (co-)resilience, sustain collective life, and open up opportunities for Black flourishing?
“Creative Co-Resilience and Black Flourishing” is a special issue of RUBIX Journal that welcomes broad-range of submissions which examine how artistic and imaginative work across Black contexts in the health sciences, literary studies, education, communication, creative industries, and associated disciplines cultivate innovative practices of care, knowledge-making, and collective transformation.
Importantly, we invite contributions that engage Black scholarship through health, creative writings, music, personal narratives, dance, and other creative practices, and highlight how these practices foster shared strength, promote relational infrastructure, and imagine and enact pathways toward Black flourishing. Artistic interventions (e.g. poems, creative non-fiction, photo essays, textiles, visual art works, music, and so on), alongside academic articles, are very welcome.
This special issue stems from “Black Scholars in Dialogue” organised by the Black Scholarship Institute and the Creative School at TMU on the theme of “Creative Co-resilience and Black Flourishing”, but our call for papers to the special issue of RUBIX Journal is open to all as we encourage submissions from all disciplines and regions. We invite papers that explore the dynamics, capacities, and potentialities of co-resilience across fields through critical and interdisciplinary engagements.
RUBIX is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to fostering dynamic, multidirectional dialogue that extends beyond conventional boundaries of academic publishing. It provides a platform for diverse forms of creative and emerging scholarship, including academic articles, poetry, experimental writing combining text and image, sound-based works, photography, photo essays, visual art, and video. All submissions, irrespective of medium or format, undergo a rigorous peer-review process. We particularly encourage creative and critical explorations in arts, creative industries, health sciences, education, communication and related areas, including both theoretical and practice-led work. Emerging scholars and graduate students are especially invited to contribute to this special issue.
