Counselling and Mental Health Services

Centre for Student Development and Counselling

The Centre for Student Development and Counselling offers free and confidential counselling for TMU students. Our services include individual and group counselling, career counselling, crisis support and help with resources or referrals. If you’re reaching out for the first time, you can book an initial care planning appointment or find out more about services and support.

Queer, trans, non-binary and gender-diverse students are welcome to request to be matched with a counsellor who identifies as 2SLGBTQ+ for your initial appointment. Matching requests will be honoured as best as possible.

During your first appointment, you'll explore the resources and supports available to students at TMU, including options specifically for queer and trans students. Together, you’ll make a plan for tailored next steps. This may include individual counselling, group psychotherapy options like Unashamed and Uplifted: A 2SLGTBQ+ Group and Exploring Identity, and referrals to TMU or community resources.

Therapy Dogs

Looking for a little downtime? In partnership with the St. John's Ambulance Therapy Dog Program, TMU brings therapy dogs to campus in support of your mental health.

Student Care and Case Management

The Office of Student Care is here to help you find the resources and well-rounded support you need if you face challenges during your studies. Our team also works with the TMU community to identify students who are struggling, or whose behaviours may be affecting others. This can include supporting students navigating complex mental health, medical, academic, personal, housing and/or financial issues.

Students, faculty and staff can contact us to talk about a student they’re worried about. We’re here to help you figure out the best next steps or to connect that student with the right services.
