Dr. Safaa Blila is the former Continuing Education Academic Coordinator and test administrator for Arabic, at the Toronto Metropolitan University. She teaches Arabic Language and Culture courses across all levels, through the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. She holds a doctorate from Mohammed V University (Rabat), an MA with distinction from Ibn Tofail University (Kenitra), and a B.A. with distinction from Mohammed V University (Rabat). Her doctoral research focuses on the sociolinguistic situation in Morocco and issues of language planning, policy and linguistic human rights. She received a Fulbright Joint Supervision Scholarship (2011-2012) to complete her dissertation at the University of Arizona, College of Education. Prior to joining TMU, Dr. Blila has previously taught at Mohammed V University and Université Internationale de Rabat. She has published on linguistic human rights in Morocco, language planning and policy, and language learning attitudes towards English. Her ongoing research addresses teaching Arabic as a foreign language and Arabic heritage language learners.
