Insert Attachments in Gmail From Google Drive

Released On: Dec. 11, 2012

Starting Dec. 11, 2012, a new feature will be introduced to allow users to insert files from Drive directly into a new email message without leaving Gmail. Users can quickly add a file from Drive to an email with just a few clicks.

Unlike attachments, the users will benefit from:

  • sending files up to 10GB in size
  • restricting or revoking access to the files after sending
  • making changes while everyone always has the most current version

Drive lets users control who can access files. And if a user tries to send a file that email recipients don't have access to yet, Gmail will help the user update sharing settings before an email is sent.

To get started, a user can just click on the Drive icon while composing a message. Please, note that this feature is only available in Gmail's new compose, so your users will need to opt-in to use this feature.

Please, refer to the Help Center Article (external link)  for more information about this feature.
