Frequently Asked Questions

The cost of a simulation varies based on the simulation duration, complexity, the number of simulators, and the level of customization required.

A note for Toronto Metropolitan faculty and staff. All faculty and staff are required to seek departmental approval for all costs associated with the simulation. We will provide a cost estimate for our services upon request. To review your learning objectives or professional development needs with a member of our team or to obtain a quote, please contact us at las@torontomu.ca.

You will need to fill out the internal LAS Simulation Request Form for internal Toronto Metropolitan bookings. Once your request is received, LAS will send a request for departmental approval to your Chair or Director to confirm simulation costs and your cost centre. Once the simulation is approved, one of our trainers will consult with you to:

  • Confirm the details of your booking (date, time, etc.)
  • Clarify your learning objectives
  • Discuss any changes or modifications to the simulation scenario
  • Determine the focus for feedback
  • Provide any additional support you may require

If you're an external partner to Toronto Metropolitan, reach out to us at las@torontomu.ca. Once your request is received, one of our trainers will consult with you to:

  • Confirm the details of your booking (date, time, etc.)
  • Clarify your learning objectives
  • Discuss any changes or modifications to the simulation scenario
  • Determine the focus for feedback
  • Provide any additional support you may require

Before filling out the form, we recommend you review and select a simulation scenario from our simulation catalogue.

LAS can develop custom simulations to support your learning objectives, existing professional development initiatives, or performance assessment models. Our training staff will meet with interested parties, review their needs, develop an appropriate simulation scenario, and train the simulators as required. Customized simulations, or revisions to existing scenarios, are provided on a fee-for-service basis, and costs will vary according to the required degree of innovation or adaptation.  We provide a cost estimate upon request following the initial consultation. Please review our custom simulation process.

To arrange a meeting with a member of our training staff, please contact us at las@torontomu.ca.

It is encouraged that clients send simulation requests a minimum of four weeks in advance. If this is not the case, please contact us at las@torontomu.ca (opens in new window)  to discuss your requirements before submitting a request form. Once we have reviewed the details, we will confirm whether or not we can schedule a simulation in time for your event.

Simulations are priced at a minimum of two hours per session. We recommend allowing at least 90 minutes for the scenario to play out and 15 minutes in the end for the simulator to provide feedback to the participants. However, you may choose to schedule a simulation for more or less than two hours.

Clients can submit multiple simulations on the same request form. Simply indicate the correct simulation number and title, preferred date, start and end times, etc., for each simulation in the spaces provided.

We require a minimum of three working days’ notice for cancellations or changes to simulation bookings. Simulations that are cancelled or rescheduled with less than the required notice will be charged.

LAS reserves the right to cancel a simulation due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. simulator is sick) at any time with no charge to your account.

Yes, revisions to existing scenarios (including characters, setting, etc.) require a consultation with a LAS trainer. LAS provides on a fee-for-service basis. Costs will vary according to the degree of innovation or adaptation required. Upon request, we will provide a cost estimate following your consultation with our staff. To arrange a meeting with a member of our training staff, please contact us at las@torontomu.ca (opens in new window)

Important note: We ask that instructors do not request last-minute changes to the setting or character on the day of delivery as it may adversely affect the authenticity of the simulation experience. LAS simulators can refuse to enact any changes they feel are beyond the scope of their training/understanding of a given scenario.

We have found that simulations can be an effective learning and development tool, regardless of the size of the group/class. Often, simply by altering the style of presentation, LAS can adapt the simulation to suit the needs of a larger group without reducing the impact of the experience.

We will meet your request for a simulator but cannot guarantee their availability. We train multiple simulators in most roles. If you ask for a simulator who is not available, we will book another skilled member of our team who meets the specific requirements for the simulation.

You can assist us with this process by indicating any special instructions or providing specific feedback on past experiences when you book your simulation. That way, our trainers can ensure that this information is communicated well in advance, and the simulator can ask questions they may have before the simulation.
