TMU and McMaster University co-hosted a two-day conference in September 2024 honouring the legacy of Caribbean-Canadian author, Austin Clarke. The gathering brought together scholars, students, and community members who engaged with, revived, and reflected on Clarke's legacy and broader implications for Black thought across the diaspora. The panels, round table discussions, and guided tour of the Austin Clarke archives at McMaster University, drew attention to Clarke's central role in Black literature, Black intellectual thought, and Black studies. Conference co-organizers, Darcy Ballantyne (TMU) and Ronald Cummings (McMaster) are working towards a book-length project that will gather together selected talks from the conference and the writing of other Clarke scholars.
