Ewan Matthews, “Using Twitter Creatively: An Introduction to Twitter Bots and Twitfic”

Ewan Matthews’ talk will explore the forms and functions of artistic Twitter bots, digital wonders that perpetually create content in the Twitterverse. It will also explore Matthews' own creations, including a bot that questions binary relations (@bot_binary), another that tweets pulp fantasy sequences based on the Hero's Journey (@monomyth_maker), and a microfiction project that follows a ragtag collective endlessly fleeing destruction, endlessly searching for a new beginning (@The_Settlers_).

Ewan Matthews is a Ryerson alumnus with a B.A. in English and History. He was a Student Research Fellow at the Centre for Digital Humanities, working as a research assistant for the Lesbian and Gay Liberation in Canada project (lglc.ca (external link) ). Ewan uses digital platforms for creative and critical making, including Twitter bots, Twitter fiction, video games, and interactive fiction.
