English Professors Recognized for Commitment to First-Year Students

June 05, 2013

The Ryerson Student Housing Services recently asked residents to nominate professors who have positively impacted their academic experience at Ryerson. The English department congratulates Martha Addante, David Copeland, and Paul Chafe for being recognized for their influence on their students’ academic experience.

Students in residence are predominantly in their first year of study, so this acknowledgment points to the important role English instructors play in ensuring that the English Department gives our new students the guidance and support they need early in their program.

Noting that the move from high school to university “can be a difficult transition for anyone,” one student thanked their English instructor for using an “interactive teaching style [that] helped the students in our small lecture class to work together, and help each other with the course materials. The course taught me how to properly formulate my thoughts in a university-level essay.”

The English Department thanks Martha, David, and Paul for their commitment to English studies and teaching, and for helping ensure our students get the support they need to excel in their studies.
