UV Printing at the LAB
We offer UV printing services to all current students, faculty, and staff of The Creative School. All UV printing services are carried out by LAB staff at the Design + Technology LAB, DCC-B33 B. UV printing files are processed on a first-come-first-serve basis through our booking form.
We ask that you come to your UV printing appointment time to be present while your files are processed so that you can pick up and pay for your items once they are completed. You must pay for your UV printing fees using your University OneCard (students/faculty/staff) at the time of your pick-up.
We have a range of resources to help you prepare your files and plan your projects- we encourage you to review them before submitting your files.
Materials & Pricing
UV Printing service fees are based on the price per hour of printing time, ink usage, and the cost of materials used (if purchasing from the LAB).
You are welcome to bring in your own material, but it must first be approved by our LAB staff. Please check out our UV Printing Quick Start Guide to see what materials we’ve printed on.

Price per hour
We charge $27.50/hour for UV Printing which includes the time it takes the technician to fix, set-up and print your file.
Ink
The cost for ink usage is calculated by the printing software. The price varies depending on surface coverage; using lots of black or spot white will significantly increase the price.

Frequently Asked Questions about our UV Printing Services
Yes, we ask that you be present during the duration of your UV Printing appointment. This is to ensure that you can verify if your print is being processed correctly in real time and avoid any delays in communication.
We also ask that if you are providing material to print on, you do so when you arrive for your scheduled appointment and not before. We do not have anywhere at the LAB to store your materials in advance.
If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment but still require UV Printing services, please reach out to us to determine whether we would be able to accommodate your request without you present.
Please cancel your appointment as soon as possible in your Google Calendar.
When you click on the appointment event in your Google Calendar, there is a button at the bottom right of the pop-up window for you to cancel your appointment.
We don’t offer full estimates for UV Printing submissions.
For UV printing: final cost is determined by the time it takes to to set-up and print your file (per hour), ink usage, and if you purchase material from the LAB.
We can provide an approximate estimate for ink use by uploading your file into our printing software. To do so, you need to have a working file on hand to share with us.
- Printing large images that take up a lot of the bed surface area
- Printing large areas of black ink and/or using spot white and clear inks
- Prints that require a lot of set-up such as large materials, multiple copies, and printing on fabric
We accept Adobe Illustrator (.AI) and Photoshop (.PSD) files made using our LAB templates. Please make sure that you are using the correct template size for your project.
In order to print on a patron-supplied material, it must be approved by a technician beforehand.
Your material must be under 4” in height, 48” in length and 96” in width. The material also must be as flat as possible and the printer passes 1 mm over your material and any contact with the print head can damage the printer.

We do not accept heat sensitive materials for UV printing as UV lamps are used to cure the ink which can affect the material.
Your material must also be a flat substrate and cannot be warped or curved as it can damage the printer if it comes into contact with the material. The material must also be under 4” in height.
