Why did you choose Creative Industries and which modules did you choose?

I chose Creative Industries because it was the perfect blend of business and the arts. I chose The Music Industry and The Art and Business of Film.

Where are you working now and what do you do in your role?

I work at Peermusic, a music publisher based out of LA, in the Canadian office. In my role as Creative Coordinator on the Sync and A&R team, I help pitch music to advertisement and production companies to get music featured in movies, on TV, and in commercials. We also work with the label to sign these songwriters. It’s literally my two Creative Industries modules in one job.

How has covid impacted the way you work or have thought about your career?

I love the flexibility of the virtual environment and it has changed my mindset on the future of my career. There’s a lot of freedom working from home, and especially being in music, getting to travel while still being able to do my work and attend meetings is great. I feel like that’s the new direction we’re going in because it provides so much more balance.

What advice would you give to current creative industries students wondering about their professional futures?

I would say attend everything, even if things are virtual. Still try to network and ask questions. We may not be face-to-face, but you can still make your personality and presence known through these new technologies.
