On the advice for current students and the internship experience:
To current students, I would say use your student leadership opportunities while you have them. Because for me, being on the Course Union and on the SCS, those kinds of things, they sometimes feel small at the time, but they'll actually be that extra leg up that differentiates you when you're in an interview.
When I got my internship with The Kit, my editor told me later that it was my description of leading and organizing a team that actually led her to hire me. Running a social media account as the marketing director for a conference at TMU, things like that - when you actually get out of TMU, someone will want you to have that experience before they'll pay you for it. Having the chance to do it for free and kind of experiment in a more risk-free scenario is definitely worth your time.
