Ministry Key Performance Indicators

Updated: October 18, 2023.

Toronto Metropolitan University graduates continue to do well in today's job market according to a recent survey conducted for the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU). The overall employment rate for Toronto Metropolitan University's Class of 2020 graduates was 93.2% two years after graduation and 80.4% just six months after graduation. Toronto Metropolitan University's response rate for this survey was 27.4%, based on 2,004 respondents.

MCU has also calculated graduation and OSAP loan default rates for Toronto Metropolitan University using existing data sources.

The program areas shown in the table are those used by MCU and corresponding Toronto Metropolitan University programs are also shown.

To ensure respondents' confidentiality, cell counts less than or equal to 5 are not shown.

Graduation rates, employment rates, and OSAP loan default rates are made available as part of the MCU 1999-2000 OSAP policy requirements.

The Ministry of Colleges and Universities has calculated graduation rates by using a single entering cohort of students and determining whether they graduated within seven years. The method involved the selection of all newly-admitted, full-time, first-year undergraduate students registered on the Ministry’s official Fall 2013 enrolment count date who were seeking either a Bachelor's or first professional degree. This subset was then matched against the records of students who received a degree (in any program) from the same institution during the period 2014-2020.

  • The graduation rates shown understate the actual graduation rates because they do not count students who transferred to another university and then obtained a degree from that institution.
  • The graduation rates in the table indicate the percentage of newly-admitted students in first-year level on a full-time load in Fall 2013 who subsequently received a degree from Toronto Metropolitan University between 2014 and 2020 in any program area.

To determine employment rates of recent graduates, a survey of all Class of 2020 graduates of Bachelor's and first professional degree programs in Ontario was conducted. Graduates were asked questions regarding their employment situation six months and two years after graduation.

  • The employment rates in the table indicate the percentage of 2020 degree graduates who were employed six months after graduation and two years after graduation.

The 2021 default rates reflect the repayment status of students who were issued Canada-Ontario Integrated Student Loans (COISL) in the 2018-2019 academic year and did not receive loans or grants through the Ontario Student Assistance Program in 2019-2020, and who defaulted on their repayment obligations. Student loan recipients/defaulters have been, for purposes of calculating default rates, assigned to the last institution/program they attended in 2019-2020.

A Canada-Ontario Integrated Student Loan is in default when the Ontario government has paid the bank's claim for an inactive loan. A loan is inactive when no payments were made by the student for at least 90 days. Responsibility for recovery of defaulted accounts was transferred to private collection agencies in January 2002.

The default rates shown in the table include:

  • Students in Toronto Metropolitan University Continuing Education certificate programs;
  • Defaults on loan obligations incurred by students while at other universities or Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology in the case of students who transferred to Toronto Metropolitan University.

The default rates in the table indicate the percentage of students issued a COISL in 2018-2019 who did not receive a loan or grant from the Ontario Student Assistance Program in 2019-2020 and were in default as of July 2021.
