Celebrating the achievements of the individuals and teams that have spearheaded equitable initiatives is a fundamental part of our journey towards achieving a fully inclusive environment. We believe it is vital to support the visibility of our faculty, staff and students who positively impact their communities both across the Ted Rogers School environment and beyond. From decolonization efforts to gender equity to supporting Black excellence, members of the Ted Rogers School continue to inspire us through meaningful demonstration of their values of allyship, equity and inclusion.

“Receiving donor-funded awards has been an incredible blessing. Beyond easing the financial load, this support has reminded me that my hard work matters and my dreams are valid. Because of this generosity, I’ve been able to focus more on my academics, take on leadership roles and pour into my community through mentorship and service. I’m grateful to be part of a school where generosity and impact go hand in hand. To every donor who chooses to invest in students like me, thank you. Empowering equity through experience: Celebrating the inaugural CIBC Co-op Student Award recipients

The Ted Rogers School proudly celebrated the launch of the CIBC Co-op Student Awards for Equity and Excellence, which breaks down barriers for equity-deserving students, including Indigenous students, Black students and students with disabilities, who often face financial challenges to accessing work-integrated learning. After the awards launched in 2023-24, 53 students were selected this past year as the inaugural recipients, and their stories reflect both the impact of this award and the school’s commitment to equity, access and career readiness. Building on this success, more than 80 additional awards will be granted this year, creating even more opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience that prepares them for the future.

This initiative directly supports the priorities outlined in the Ted Rogers School’s 2025-2030 Strategic Plan: expanding participation in co-op, increasing the value of student awards for equity-deserving and international students, and removing financial barriers to transformative learning experiences. With CIBC’s support, the Ted Rogers School is making meaningful progress toward these goals and empowering the next generation of leaders to thrive after graduation.

“CIBC’s support means so much to me and is allowing me to get the most out of my education and co-op experience at the Ted Rogers School. My long-term dream is to become a CPA – I want to set up my own business that helps those in need in developing countries. I am proud of how far I have come in my life by learning new skills, expanding my knowledge by reading books and trying new experiences. I am committed to a journey of growth, knowing that each step brings me closer to making a positive impact.”

The power of community: How the Dean’s Circle supports students

Marketing Management student Swaraj Bhomick is turning his lived experience into innovation through his startup, RecAbility, which designs accessible sports and recreation products for people with disabilities.

Having faced barriers himself, Swaraj recognized the urgent need for more inclusive recreational opportunities and set out to create solutions that make a difference. His entrepreneurial journey has been remarkable: after winning the Slaight New Venture Competition, he was selected to represent Toronto Metropolitan University at the Hult Canada Prize at McGill University in Montreal. With travel support from the Ted Rogers Students’ Society and the Dean’s Circle Fund, Swaraj competed against 19 startups from across the country and earned recognition as one of the top six finalists.

This achievement highlights how donor support—through initiatives like the Dean’s Circle, a community of alumni, faculty, staff and business leaders—enables students to pursue bold ideas, amplify their impact and shape the future as innovators and leaders. By investing in students like Swaraj, the Ted Rogers School is fostering inclusion, empowering entrepreneurship, and ensuring that diverse voices drive meaningful change.
