Let’s Talk Health: High School Event Series is offered by SciXchange at Toronto Metropolitan University and Let’s Talk Science
Overview:
The Let’s Talk Health Symposia is a series of events that will highlight the intersection of health research with various subjects in science and math. This series of events is open to high school students (grades 10-12) and will introduce them to different topics and careers in health beyond more well-known occupations. At each event students will meet researchers and professionals who will answer their questions and lead them through interactive demonstrations. Each event is independent. Students are welcome to sign up for one or multiple events.
Instructor and Description:
Monica Seger, retired biologist from Beyer, will introduce students to the process of drug development using vaccines as an example. Michelle Mah and Safa Yusuf will then lead students through a genetics pedigree, used by Genetics Counsellors.
Format:
1 hour - short presentation followed by Q&A with a Health researcher.
1 hour - activity highlighting a health concept within the respective subject.
*Some events may take 2.5 hours to allow for more activity time.
Technical Requirements:
- Event will be facilitated through Zoom
- Participants must have access to a personal device (laptop/tablet) in order to participate.
