The research focus of Dr. Raja Roy is to develop an innovative modified lost wax casting process using additive manufacturing for casting of aluminum and magnesium alloys. The research project involves the design and printing of pattern assembly using a 3D printer, computer modelling of casting in the designed pattern assembly, correlation of processing parameters with the resulting microstructure and mechanical properties, and optimization of the process. The process is being applied to produce porous magnesium castings for application in transportation industry.
