Description:

Join us for a virtual engineering camp experience! Led by our Eureka! Camp counsellors, this session includes:

  • an introduction to your engineering experiment from a Toronto Metropolitan University engineering student
  • a go-at-your-own-pace instructional video with Zoom support from your Instructor
  • a chance to show off your creation, debrief about how it works, and test your knowledge in a fun game!

Schedule:

10:00AM - 12:30PM

Attendees will be split into two groups:

Juniors (8 – 10 years old)
Seniors (10 – 12 years old)

Experiment: This month’s experiment is Popsicle Stick Bridges!

If it was your job to design a bridge that could hold hundreds of cars without falling down, how would you do it? What shapes, structures, and materials would you use to ensure your bridge was strong enough to handle all that weight?

Join us to see some of the tricks engineers use to make super strong structures out of very little material, and learn why squares are one of the worst shapes to use for holding up a weight. In this activity, you’ll get to build your own bridge, and then test it to see whose bridge is strongest!

Note: this activity uses a hot glue gun, and requires help from a grown-up.
