Sheri Cohen
Social Work ’96
As a mature student in Social Work at Ryerson, Sheri Cohen received the help she needed to accommodate her learning disability and to earn her degree. Years later, Ms Cohen continues to support her alma mater and to assist students who face similar challenges. Active in helping those with learning disabilities, she was the founder and Executive Director of the Adult Learning Disabilities Employment Resource (ALDER) Centre, a not-for-profit organization in Toronto dedicated to helping individuals with learning disabilities secure employment, as well as support, in the workplace. Since leaving the ALDER Centre in 2005, Ms. Cohen promotes socially just and community directed anti-oppressive philanthropic practice and believes that community building rests on authentic dialogue that can, and must, occur across differences.
