Harry Black
Architectural Science ’57
Past director of UNICEF, past chair of the World Coalition of UNICEF National Committees and a published author, Harry Black was invested as an Officer in the Order of Canada and received the United Nations 50th Anniversary medal and the Golden Jubilee medal of Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his leadership roles in humanitarian initiatives. Beginning his career with the Red Cross, applying his architectural skills to the construction of northern Ontario hospitals, he oversaw fundraising of nearly $200 million that supported children's needs and protected their rights. Mr. Black has been pivotal in mobilizing an international coalition that — with the support of heads of state and the UN — has elevated awareness of the plight of children.
