Bryan Cantley

Journalism ’69

They call him Canada’s Mr. Newspaperman. Among his many roles, Bryan Cantley has served as a sports writer, feature writer, sports editor and editor-in-chief. In 1981, he joined the Canadian Newspaper Association as Director of Editorial Services. Through his 26-year involvement with the CNA, he had an enormous impact on Canadian newspaper journalism and was instrumental in the reorganization of the National Newspaper Awards. He stepped down from his role as Vice President of Member Services and retired from the CNA in June 2007. He is still involved with the National Newspaper Awards and Commonwealth Journalists Association, the latter helping to provide journalism training in the neediest countries of the Commonwealth. A devoted friend and promoter of his alma mater, Mr. Cantley was a founding member of the Ryerson Journalism Alumni Association and its popular annual writers’ workshop, Wordstock.
