Before You Arrive

Cynthia Holmes

Dean, Ted Rogers School of Management

Dear first-year commerce students,

Welcome to the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) and Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU)! We’re so excited to have you join us this Winter and begin your university journey as part of our community.

Your first year is an exciting time of growth, discovery, and transition — both academically and personally. At the Ted Rogers School, we’re committed to helping you succeed through the support of our Fit for Business team, along with our academic advisors, peer mentors, and professional development resources. Together, we’re here to help you navigate your courses, build confidence, and make the most of your first-year experience.

I encourage you to get involved in the Ted Rogers School community — join student groups, attend events, and connect with classmates and faculty. The relationships you build and the experiences you gain will shape your learning and open doors to future opportunities.

You are joining the Ted Rogers School at an exciting time as we renew our commitment to supporting a holistic student experience as part of our  (PDF file) five-year strategic plan. We are improving academic success through expanded math and writing support, curricular enhancements like extending the Fit for Business program, and initiatives to boost graduation rates. Simultaneously, we are deeply committed to career readiness by expanding co-op participation, creating work-related opportunities for all students, supporting student entrepreneurs, and establishing a career-focused council for advising on development programs.

As you begin this new chapter, remember that success comes from curiosity, commitment, and collaboration. Take full advantage of the resources available to you, and never hesitate to ask for guidance along the way.

On behalf of the entire Ted Rogers community, I wish you a rewarding and inspiring first year. We look forward to supporting your journey and celebrating your accomplishments.

Warm regards,

Cynthia Holmes

Interested in studying at TRSM? From tuition, to your overall first year experience - view our Future Students site to discover everything there is to know before making your application.

Before you begin your studies, take a few minutes to explore AwardSpring (external link)  - the platform where you can apply for entrance scholarships, awards, and bursaries. Completing your general application helps us match you with awards you may be eligible for, including many that are automatically considered when you start at TRSM.

To increase your chances, fill out your general application as fully as possible, including budget information, and keep an eye on your AwardSpring dashboard for awards and additional requirements. With more than 1,400 awards and over $20 million in funding available at TMU each year, AwardSpring is your gateway to valuable financial support.

Applications open the last week of August, so it’s a great idea to apply early and secure some funding in your first year!

TMU email activation

At the end of July, you will be granted full access to your my.torontomu.ca student account, allowing you to access all current student academic and financial features on MyServiceHub, as well as the full suite of Google Apps.

In late July or early August, you will automatically be prompted to create a TMU username and set-up your student email address (name@torontomu.ca) when you log into my.torontomu.ca. Once your email has been set up, you can access your inbox by selecting Gmail in the Apps tab on your my.torontomu.ca account. All official university communications will be sent to your TMU email address, so remember to check it frequently!

OneCard activation

Your OneCard is one of the most important tools you'll need while studying at TMU. Apply online for your free card by using the OneCard application portal.

You can add your Digital OneCard to your smartphone/smartwatch via Apple or Google Wallet. It can be used to enter buildings on campus, access university services, and pay for products safely and securely.

You still need to pick up a physical OneCard. The physical OneCard will be used as identification during exams, tests, and other assessments. When picking up your physical OneCard, please know your student number and bring a valid piece of government ID.
