Dear first-year commerce students,

Welcome to the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) and Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU)! We’re so excited to have you join us and begin your university journey as part of our community.

Your first year is an exciting time of growth, discovery, and transition — both academically and personally. At the Ted Rogers School, we’re committed to helping you succeed through the support of our Fit for Business team, along with our academic advisors, peer mentors, and professional development resources. Together, we’re here to help you navigate your courses, build confidence, and make the most of your first-year experience.

I encourage you to get involved in the Ted Rogers School community — join student groups, attend events, and connect with classmates and faculty. The relationships you build and the experiences you gain will shape your learning and open doors to future opportunities.

You are joining the Ted Rogers School at an exciting time as we renew our commitment to supporting a holistic student experience as part of our  (PDF file) five-year strategic plan. We are improving academic success through expanded math and writing support, curricular enhancements like extending the Fit for Business program, and initiatives to boost graduation rates. Simultaneously, we are deeply committed to career readiness by expanding co-op participation, creating work-related opportunities for all students, supporting student entrepreneurs, and establishing a career-focused council for advising on development programs.

As you begin this new chapter, remember that success comes from curiosity, commitment, and collaboration. Take full advantage of the resources available to you, and never hesitate to ask for guidance along the way.

On behalf of the entire Ted Rogers community, I wish you a rewarding and inspiring first year. We look forward to supporting your journey and celebrating your accomplishments.

Warm regards,

Cynthia Holmes
