Policy 143 Review
About
The University is undertaking its cyclical review of Policy 143, the Policy on the Indirect Costs Associated with Scholarly, Research and Creative (SRC) Funding. Policy 143 was last reviewed on May 1, 2018. At this stage, changes to the policy are anticipated to provide clarity and updates where appropriate.

Principles to Guide the Policy Development
In line with Toronto Metropolitan University’s (TMU) mission, vision and values, the review of Policy 143 will be guided by the following principles:
- Inclusion: The review will involve a wide array of stakeholders and provide the opportunity for diverse perspectives to be included in the conversation.
- Transparency: Regular reports will be provided to the Senate Scholarly Research and Creative Activity Committee (SRCAC) and the SRC Representatives Group, and communication of best practices will be employed throughout the review.
- Integrity: TMU is committed to promoting research conducted according to the highest ethical standards.

Roles and Responsibilities
Reviewing Policy 143 will be led by the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation and chaired by the Associate Vice-President, Research and Innovation. The Vice-President, Research and Innovation (VPRI) will be responsible for the revised policy that will be brought to the SRC Leaders Group, the Senate SRCAC and, ultimately, the full Senate for approval.
The policy review process will be guided by a Review Committee comprising the SRC Leaders from each TMU faculty, the Yeates School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and the Library. The Review Committee will provide advice and input and perform a challenge function in reviewing the policy framework and its key provisions. The Review Committee will draft and recommend an updated policy to the VPRI.

Community Consultation – Town Hall
The TMU community is invited to read the (PDF file) revised draft version of Policy 143 and to contribute feedback via a series of town halls in early winter 2024. We encourage community members to review the set questions below, as well as to submit their own questions or comments in advance, and attend any of the scheduled sessions:

At the town halls, the revised draft version of Policy 143 will be introduced, background information will be provided on work to date, and next steps will be highlighted. There will be an opportunity for a Q&A, and your feedback will help us ensure that the Policy is fit for purpose and clear in its objectives.
