Community Support Services

TMU community members are encouraged to reach out for support and connect with available resources to help with personal well-being during the challenging time of COVID-19.

  • TMU Medical Centre offers health services for the TMU Community, including assisting students through health emergencies.

  • TMU International leads the Global Learning portfolio for students interested in engaging in global learning at home and abroad, as well as short-term international visiting students at TMU. This also includes travel risk management for faculty staff and students. 
  • Immigrant Employees Community Network is a group of faculty and staff who self-identify as immigrants that shares information and supports each other.

  • Parent Network is a community network made up of faculty and staff who build community for parents and families by hosting events, sharing resources and providing opportunities for networking and mentorship. 
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) is a confidential and voluntary support service that can help with many kinds of problems and challenges in your life. The program is administered by Shepell (external link)  and services are entirely anonymous.

  • Consent Comes First at TMU is available to both students and employees affected by sexual violence for expert support and connections to sexual health and gender resources.

  • Centre for Women and Trans People (external link)  is an equity service centre offered by TMU Students’ Union and provides a safe space for self-identified women and trans people, as well as feminist and trans-positive resources.

  • RyePRIDE (external link)  is an Equity Service Centre of the TMU Students’ Union (TMSU). It represents the Queer and Trans students at TMU, including but not limited to individuals who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, two spirited, trans, intersex, queer and questioning. 
  • The Trans Collective (external link)  is an Equity Service Centre of the TMU Students’ Union (TMSU). It focuses on challenging transphobia, cissexism, transmisogyny and binarism at the university by offering education, advocacy and support for trans people on campus.

  • Positive Space is an employee community network that supports faculty and staff with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions who work together to create an inclusive environment. 

External resources and support services

Please note that many of these external resources and support services are located in the Greater Toronto Area, and therefore, may not be accessible to TMU community members who are living outside of this area. We encourage you to reach out to TMU offices for further information about resources and support services that may be more widely available.

  • Talk4Healing (external link)  is a talk, text and chat service for Indigenous women by Indigenous women across Ontario. You can connect confidentially to provide you with culturally sensitive peer support and a safe space to connect with others.

  • Liberate Meditation (external link)  is a meditation and mindfulness app for BIPOC communities. 
  • The 519  (external link) provides programs and services for the 2SLGBTQ+ community during COVID-19 that cover essential services and supports, care and prevention, emotional self-care and newcomer and refugee support.
  • YouthLine (external link)  is a chat, text and email service for 2SLGBTQ+ youth aged 16 to 29. You can connect to other trained peer supporters to talk about your gender identity, sexual orientation, mental health and relationships with others. 
  • Trans Lifeline's Hotline (external link)  is a phone service for trans and questioning people. You can connect to other trans people all over Canada and the United States that self-identify as trans to talk to someone anonymously and confidentially.
