The 2027 IMISCOE Spring Conference is taking place, for the first time, in North America.

Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, TMU’s campus is walkable, accessible, and surrounded by a rich cultural landscape.
Conference Venue
The 2027 IMISCOE Spring Conference will be held at the historic Oakham House on the Toronto Metropolitan University campus. Built in 1848, this architectural landmark provides an intimate and atmospheric setting that encourages the kind of reflexive, face-to-face dialogue conducive to scholarly discussion. Its location in the heart of downtown Toronto not only ensures seamless accessibility for international delegates but also immerses participants in one of the world’s most multicultural cities, physically anchoring the theoretical discussions of global mobility and governance within a vibrant, living context of diversity.

Getting to Toronto and TMU
By Air
There are two airports serving Toronto: Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ).
Toronto Pearson International Airport is Canada’s largest airport and is located approximately 30 km northwest of downtown Toronto. The most direct way to reach Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) from Pearson is the UP Express, a dedicated train that connects the airport to Union Station in about 25 minutes. From Union Station, TMU is easily accessible by public transit, taxi, or a short walk combined with a subway or streetcar ride. Taxis and ride-share services are also available at Pearson and take approximately 45–60 minutes depending on traffic.
Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is located on Toronto Islands, close to downtown. From the airport, a short ferry or pedestrian tunnel connects to the mainland, where taxis, ride-share services, and public transit are readily available. Travel time from Billy Bishop to TMU is typically 15–25 minutes.
By Train
Toronto is well connected by rail. VIA Rail provides intercity train service from major cities across Canada, while GO Transit offers regional rail service from surrounding areas in Ontario. Most trains arrive at Union Station, Toronto’s main transportation hub. From Union Station, participants can take the TTC subway (Line 1 northbound), streetcar, or a short taxi ride to reach TMU.
Public Transit
Toronto’s public transit system (TTC) includes subways, streetcars, and buses. TMU is centrally located in downtown Toronto and is easily accessible via multiple TTC routes. Detailed transit directions can be planned using the TTC website or common mapping applications.
Local Travel
Taxis and ride-share services are widely available throughout the city. Downtown Toronto is also highly walkable, with many hotels, restaurants, and amenities located within walking distance of TMU.
