Ann and Bill Mackay Entrance Award for Indigenous Students in Recognition of Joanne Dallaire (TMU’s First Elder)

The Ann and Bill Mackay Entrance Award for Indigenous Students in Recognition of Joanne Dallaire (TMU’s First Elder) recognizes the high academic achievement of a mature student entering any full-time or part-time academic program at the university.

Applicant must:

  • have clear academic standing
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Person
  • identify as an Indigenous Person
  • be enrolling in a post-secondary institution for the first time
  • be an undergraduate student
  • submit a statement (up to 1,000 words) on why they entered into their current program at Toronto Met and what they hope to accomplish from it.

Ann and Bill Mackay Entrance Scholarship for Indigenous Students in Recognition of Monica McKay (Founding Director of Indigenous Student Services)

Ann and Bill McKay Entrance Scholarship for Indigenous Students in Recognition of Monica McKay (Founding Director of Indigenous Student Services) recognizes the high academic achievement of a high school student entering any full-time or part-time academic program at the university.

Applicant must:

  • be enrolling in a post-secondary institution for the first time
  • Identify as an Indigenous Person (Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, non-status, status)
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Person
  • be an undergraduate student
  • have a minimum average of 80% from high school 

The scholarship is granted to the student with the highest incoming grade 12 average.

Bennett Equity Awards for Indigenous Students

This is a one time award for domestic students who are enrolled in full time studies at Toronto Metropolitan University, who self-identify as Indigenous, and who demonstrate financial need.

Applicant must:

  • Be an undergraduate student
  • Enrolled in full time studies (80% or more of a full course load or at least 4 billing units), OR Full-
  • time (permanent disability: 40% or more of a full course load)
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the university
  • Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0
  • Recipients agree to participate in the Indigenous group mentoring offered in partnership with the Tri-Mentoring Program (TMP).

Indigenous Student Bursary

This bursary is provided to Indigenous students with financial need who are attending post-secondary programs and/or training programs at either Ontario publicly-assisted colleges and universities or approved Indigenous post-secondary education and training institutions. This bursary was first established in the 2008-09 academic year as part of the Government of Ontario's Indigenous Education Strategy. The value of each bursary ranges from $1,000 to $3,500.

Applicant must: 

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Person
  • be an Indigenous Person in Canada
  • be an Ontario resident
  • have clear academic standing
  • have a cumulative GPA of 1.67 or higher
  • be enrolled in a certificate program, part-time undergraduate degree program, full-time undergraduate degree program, graduate studies program or law school program
  • demonstrate financial need as determined by the university

Métis Nation of Ontario Bursary

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Métis Student Bursary Program provides bursaries to registered students who are verified Métis citizens of the Métis Nation of Ontario. Applicants will be required to consent to an MNO citizenship verification check to confirm eligibility for these awards. Funding amounts of the bursaries are determined by the MNO, based on funding availability and financial need. If you have any questions, please direct all inquiries to: psesupport@metisnation.org. Applicant must:

  • Have verified membership with the MNO and be able to provide proof of membership
  • Identify as an Indigenous Person (Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, non-status, status)
  • be a resident of Ontario
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Person
  • have clear academic standing
  • demonstrate financial need as determined by the University.

Rabbi Abraham Silverstein Indigenous Student Award

The Rabbi Abraham Silverstein Indigenous Student Award is suitable for high school students with final grades 80% or better. If there are no suitable high school applicants,  in consultation with the donor, Indigenous Student Services may consider applications from mature students entering the first year of a full-time undergraduate degree program. The award is renewable subject to the recipient maintaining a CGPA of 3.00 or better in each of their first, second and third years of study (Fall + Winter terms) and continuing to demonstrate financial need.

Applicant must: 

  • Identify as an Indigenous Person (Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, non-status, status)
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Person
  • be a resident of Ontario
  • demonstrate financial need as determined by the university

Mature students entering their first year of a four-year program will be considered for this award if no suitable qualifying 

Toronto Metropolitan Association - Indigenous Student Award

The Toronto Metropolitan Faculty Association Undergraduate Award for Indigenous Students acknowledges the efforts of Indigenous students, enrolled in an undergraduate program, who maintain academic proficiency, as well as demonstrate a commitment to social justice and/or labour relations both on and off-campus.

Applicant must:

  • have clear academic standing
  • be of Indigenous ancestry (First Nations, Inuit ,Métis, non-status, status)
  • have a CGPA of 2.50 or higher

Students may apply for and receive the bursary on an annual basis until they have completed their studies. 

Other Indigenous Undergraduate Student Awards Available through TRSM

CPA Ontario Foundation Bursary for Indigenous Student Success

The CPA Ontario Foundation is a charitable organization. Their purpose is to support the educational success of aspiring CPAs from priority communities who face barriers to entering the profession. Through awards, bursaries, scholarships, and programming, the foundation supports students from Indigenous communities who are pursuing a career in accounting and finance. 

Amount: $7,500 x 2 Students. 

Qualifications:

  • Must be a full-time undergraduate student OR full-time reduced course load
    • Must have approved accommodations for a reduced course load
  • Must have a minimum 2.0 CGPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need (this is a Budget Form they fill out when they apply on AwardSpring)
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person.
  • Must self-identify as an Indigenous person in Canada (including First Nations [status and non-status], Metis or Inuit)
  • Must be enrolled in the Accounting and Finance Program or the Business Management Program with TRSM.

Additional Requirements:

  • On AwardSpring confirming their Name, Nation or Community
  • Applicants must submit a 250-word statement outlining what receiving this award would mean to them.

Law and Business Advisory Council Indigenous Award

The Ted Rogers School of Management Law and Business Advisory Council members created this award to recognize a TRSM student who identifies as Indigenous and achieved the highest grade in Law 122. 

Amount: $2000 x 1 Student

Qualifications:

  • Must be an undergraduate at TMU and enrolled in the Ted Rogers School of Management
  • Must self-identify as an Indigenous person in Canada (including First Nations [status and non-status], Metis or Inuit)

Additional Requirements:

  • On AwardSpring confirming their Name, Nation or Community
  •  Confirming that they successfully completed LAW 122 Business Law

TRSS Indigenous Student Award: Was created to acknowledge the Indigenous community and support Indigenous students within the Ted Rogers School of Management. 

Amount: $1250 x 2 Students. 

Qualifications:

  • Must be a full-time undergraduate student (80% or more/ at least 4 billing units) 
    • OR be enrolled full time (permanent disability: 40% or more of full course load)
    • Also: Registered with Academic Accommodation Support and have an Approved accommodation for a reduced course load
  • Must be enrolled in the Ted Rogers School of Management
  • Must have a minimum 2.0 CGPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need (this is a Budget Form they fill out when they apply on AwardSpring)
  • Must self-identify as an Indigenous person in Canada (including First Nations [status and non-status], Metis or Inuit)

Additional Requirements:

Applicants must submit a 250-word statement reflecting on their personal journey, including any significant experiences related to their Indigenous identity that have shaped who they are today. Please share how you have navigated these experiences and how receiving this award would support your continued growth and success during your studies in TRSM.

CIBC Co-op Student Award for Equity and Excellence

An award was created by CIBC in 2024 to provide financial support for Black students, Indigenous students, and students with disabilities in the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) who are newly admitted to the co-op program. The award gives more students from equity-deserving groups the opportunity to participate in TRSM’s co-op program, gain career-shaping development experience, and create a more robust pipeline of talented and tech-savvy graduates with future-oriented skills.

Amount: $2000 x 75

Qualifications:

  • Must be an undergraduate student enrolled in the Ted Rogers School of Management
  • Must be in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th/final year of studies
    • Or have an approved accommodation for a reduced course load and be registered with Academic Accommodation Support
  • Must demonstrate financial need (this is a Budget Form they fill out when they apply on AwardSpring)
  • Must self-identify as a person with a disability or self-identify as one or more of the following: An Indigenous person in Canada (including First Nations [status or non-status], Metis or Inuit), Black (including those that identify as Afro-Caribbean or African-Canadian).

Additional Requirements

Applicants must submit a written statement (250 words) describing how receiving this award would impact their ability to participate in the Ted Rogers School’s Co-op Program and how this opportunity could help them develop career-shaping skills.
