Andrea Carrión Hurtado

Andrea Carrión holds a Ph.D. in Geography from Carleton University, serves as Partnerships, Projects and International Mobility Coordinator at FLACSO Ecuador, and is an Adjunct Professor of the Department of Economy, Environment and Territory. Between 2019 and 2021, she coordinated the project “Building leadership for Latin American and Caribbean cities in a changing climate (external link) ,” and since 2023 is member of the Advisory Committee for the project “Climate crisis and governance of displacement in the Andean Region (external link) .”

Currently, she is the Co-Coordinator of the International Mixed Laboratory SAPRISQUI (external link) , an interdisciplinary research initiative that brings together social sciences, geosciences, and public management to strengthen science–policy–society collaboration for disaster risk reduction in Quito and the Ecuador-Colombia border region. 

Her academic and professional work focuses on disaster risk management, climate resilience, urban development, spatial planning, public policies, and political ecology. She emphasizes documenting ‘praxis’, examining the differential roles of multiple actors and everyday processes that shape local governance. As a visiting exchange fellow at CERC Migration, she will delve into the governance of climate (in)mobilities in South America.
