Research focus while a Fellow at Global Migration Institute
During the fellowship, Kibreab Habtemichael Gebereselassie proposes to develop a comparative research project on local anti-discrimination governance and inclusive urban institutions in multicultural cities, focusing on the cases of Frankfurt and Toronto. The project aims to explore how municipal governments design and implement institutional mechanisms that address discrimination while strengthening social cohesion and democratic participation in diverse societies.
The research project will be guided by the following questions: How do cities develop institutional frameworks to address discrimination and promote inclusive participation in diverse urban contexts? What role do municipal administrations and civil society partnerships play in shaping effective local migration governance? How do different urban migration regimes influence the development of anti-discrimination policies and integration strategies (Comparative governance and policy transfer between cities such as Frankfurt and Toronto)?
