Tobias Stapf has over 15 years of international experience as a researcher, facilitator, and project manager and makes use of participatory solutions for enduring social and civic challenges in collaboration with affected communities. Currently he is pursue this goal as a senior researcher and lead of the migration and digitization department at Minor, a nonprofit organization fostering education and research for social transformation in Germany and globally.
Having studied History, Economics and Human Geography at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada and London School of Economics London, UK, Tobias’ work revolves around leveraging big data to inform the development of impactful migrant integration policies and pioneering digital tools like online platforms, apps, and chatbots to support information access and integration support for newcomers in Germany, Europe, and beyond. As part of his work he has authored numerous articles and publications on migration and digitization.
Research focus while a Fellow with CERC
While at CERC Migration Tobias will engage with researchers, migrant and refugee-led organizations, and actors from local migrants and refugees social media networks in Canada on their experiences in how migrants and refugees can be better supported through offers on digital and social media. The aim of this engagement is to identify areas for potential collaboration between organizations in Germany and Canada and to lay the groundwork for implementing new approaches to supporting migrants and refugees via social and digital media in both Canada and Germany.
