TMU joins global WHO network to advance disability and health equity

Launched in June 2025, the WHO Disability Health Equity Network is a global effort to close avoidable health gaps between people with disabilities and the general population. It focuses on leadership by persons with disabilities, political prioritization, inclusive health systems and strengthening data. Led by Karen Soldatic, the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Health Equity and Community Wellbeing (CERC HECW) and professor in the School of Disability Studies at TMU, the membership secures the university as one of only three Canadian research organizations in the network.

Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) has successfully nominated Professor Karen Soldatic for appointment as the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Health Equity and Community Wellbeing, an $8-million, eight-year program.

Advancing equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in digital research infrastructure: $2.87 million awarded to DRI EDIA Champions

The Digital Research Alliance of Canada (the Alliance) is pleased to award a total of $2.87 million in funding to 82 early-stage researchers through the DRI EDIA Champions Pilot Program. This initiative is part of the Alliance’s DRI Investments for 2023-25 (external link) , and will benefit researchers by supporting equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA) in digital research infrastructure (DRI).
