T B A is a Montreal-based architecture and design practice (external link)  known for its blend of sensitivity and boldness. Offering up memorable and evocative environments, the firm’s work engages modern values with complex urban conditions by means of frank and honest discussions between past, present, and future. They seek to challenge the norms that condition practice, and to develop better environments more closely related to the way Montreal's increasingly diverse population lives today and hopes to live together tomorrow.

T B A's design excellence has been recognized through numerous awards and publications. Most recently, the firm was selected in collaboration with David Theodore through a national juried competition as Canadian’s official representation at the prestigious 17th Venice Biennale in Architecture with Impostor Cities, a project about Canada’s architectural identity and faking it.

Thomas Balaban, OAQ received his professional architecture degree from McGill University. He has worked for Frank O. Gehry & Associates/Gehry Partners in Los Angeles and Saucier+Perrotte in Montreal. In 2012 he was appointed associate professor in practice at the School of Architecture at Université de Montréal. Tom Balaban is originally from Bucharest.

Jennifer Thorogood, OAA received her professional M. Arch degree from McGill University. Prior to her education in architecture, she studied fine arts at the University of Western Ontario in London. Jennifer is a partner and principal designer at T B A. Her current practice focuses on three avenues of production: architectural work, installation, and material research. Jennifer currently teaches design studio at McGill University’s School of Architecture.
