Call for Applications: Digi-Fab Toolkit Program

The Digi-Fab Toolkit Program will bring together a team of upper-year TMU students from Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, and New Media to collaboratively create the first draft of the DFZ’s Digital Fabrication Toolkit.
This public-facing online resource will showcase accessible digital fabrication guides, experimental material workflows, and design projects highlighting these techniques. The program features targeted workshops on digital fabrication, responsible material use, and open-source tools, plus mentorship from industry and academic partners.
Your Role: Project Researcher
Each selected student will participate as a project researcher. In this role, you will:
- Investigate barriers and opportunities in digital fabrication
- Prototype sustainable and accessible workflows
- Contribute to a collaboratively authored open-source resource for future makers
- Present your research and design outcomes to DFZ staff and partners
Time Commitment
The program runs for 7 weeks from October 27 – December 12, 2025.
- Weekly workshops, work sessions, and mentorship opportunities.
- Approximately 30 hours of on-site participation, plus independent work, for a maximum total of 40 hours.
- Attendance is mandatory for all program activities.

We are seeking upper-year undergraduate students at TMU enrolled in:
- Architecture
- Interior Design
- Engineering
- New Media
Ideal candidates will be:
- Curious and critical thinkers who approach digital fabrication with a questioning mindset
- Passionate about sustainability, responsible design, and reducing material waste
- Excited by emerging technologies, such as AI, robotics, and open-source tools
- Collaborative and interdisciplinary, eager to learn from peers across fields
- Motivated to contribute to a resource that has a lasting impact on the maker community
Compensation
This is a paid opportunity for students at TMU. Each Digital Fabrication Researcher will receive an honorarium of $525.00 CAD, supported by Experience Ventures, in recognition of their time, contributions, and creative labor.
