Centre for Student Development and Counselling (CSDC)

The Centre for Student Development and Counselling (CSDC) offers free and confidential counselling to TMU students. Services include individual and group counselling, career counselling, crisis support, and resource/referral navigation.

Services

Individual Counselling

Mental health counsellors provide one-on-one therapy appointments to address a variety of personal concerns and crisis situations including stress and anxiety, depression, transition into or out of university, relationship and interpersonal issues, trauma and abuse, eating concerns, body image, and identity.

Group Counselling

Counselling groups offered by mental health counsellors at the CSDC offer spaces for you to connect with peers over a shared topic, including mood and anxiety, grief, trauma, eating disorders, family relationships, and identity. 

Supports for Black Students

Pathways of care created for Black-identified students, who are welcome to request support from a counsellor with a shared identity or background when booking an appointment.

Supports for Indigenous Students

Counselling support provided by an Indigenous counsellor is available to Indigenous students when booking an appointment.

Supports for Neurodivergent Students

Counselling pathways are available for neurodivergent students, including the option to book appointments with counsellors who have lived experience and/or specialize in neuroaffirming care.

Educational and Career Counselling

Counsellors assist both undergraduate and graduate students with educational decision-making and planning including changing programs, future studies (post-diploma, graduate and professional), and career direction. 

Eligibility

To access services with CSDC:
  • You must be a part-time or full-time undergraduate or graduate student
  • You must not be on academic leave and must be eligible to continue in your program
  • Continuing Education and Special Students have limited access to counselling

Setting up an appointment

To get connected with individual or group support, call, email, or visit the centre to set up an intake appointment. New clients will be asked to fill out an intake form before their first appointment. 

Counselling appointments are offered in the main counselling centre, other offices around campus, or virtually. Your counsellor will let you know the location upon booking, or provide you with a link to your virtual session prior to your session time.

Confidentiality policy

Anything shared with your counsellor, including your use of CSDC services, is confidential and will not be shared with anyone. Limits to confidentiality will be discussed between you and your counsellor in your intake appointment.
