Sustainability at TMU aims to create a culture of sustainability within the university community, demonstrating their commitment to sustainability in the way they develop, operate, and maintain the campus through a variety of initiatives.

Free Store

The TMU Free Store is a pop-up store dedicated to helping TMU students reduce their environmental impact and save money. Choose from a variety of gently-used items like office supplies, electronics, home decor, kitchen supplies, books and more, all for free!

Sustainability Ambassador Program

Get involved with TMU’s Sustainability Office through the Sustainability Ambassador Program for students, faculty, and staff who are interested in promoting a culture of sustainability through peer-to-peer education, engagement, research, and action. Participants can also earn a level-up micro-credential badge (external link) , which can be added to their co-curricular transcript.

Living Planet @ Campus

An initiative that allows you to take meaningful actions to protect the environment and improve sustainability practices within your own lives and on campus, including opportunities to build your resume and contribute to positive change, such as community clean-ups, hackathon competitions, and grant funding.

Cycling to Campus: Beginners' Guide

A guide with practical tips, safe cycling routes to campus, bike parking information, and safety guidelines. This resource makes it easy to get started with cycling as a convenient, sustainable way to travel.

Bike Share Toronto

A program helping the community reduce their carbon footprint, with several docks located near the TMU campus. TMU students, staff, and faculty can save 20% on an annual membership.

Discounts for bringing your own reusable mug

Bring a reusable coffee mug and receive a 25% discount at all campus coffee shops and Starbucks by TMU Eats.

TMU Eats reusable friendlier container program

During the Fall and Winter terms, TMU Eats provides a sustainable alternative to single-use takeout containers with the Friendlier Reusable Container Solution (external link, opens in new window) , a Canadian, woman-owned company.

Urban Farm

The Urban Farm operates two rooftop farms on campus to produce and distribute food on campus.

Furniture Rehome Program

This program helps keep good furniture out of landfills by giving the TMU community a chance to share and reuse extra furniture in great condition.

Repair Cafe

Bring your damaged or broken household items to the Repair Workshop and give them a second life by learning how to repair them yourself! Save money and gain practical, hands-on repair skills while also reducing waste. Repair Workshops take place throughout the year - visit the Sustainability Page for upcoming workshops.
