This trauma-informed, community-oriented workshop offers space to reconnect with the body as a source of grounding, safety, and aliveness. When meditation or deep breathing don’t feel accessible, movement can become another pathway to nervous-system regulation and connection.
Through guided somatic practices drawn from dance/movement therapy, expressive arts therapy, mindfulness, self-compassion, and belly dance traditions, participants will explore how the body’s wisdom can support emotional regulation and resilience. Together, we’ll learn how to map the nervous system, understand somatics as both interoception (awareness of inner sensations) and neuroception (the body’s sense of safety), and use pleasure as a resource for vitality and grounding.
No prior dance or movement experience is needed—just curiosity and openness to explore within a supportive community space that honours each person’s pace and capacity!
The Centre for Safer Sex and Sexual Violence Support is excited to bring a somatic movement workshop to the TMU community with Shaila Khan, registered psychotherapist (qualifying). This event is trauma-informed and open to all students who would benefit from somatic exploration in a non-judgmental spaces event.
This event is accessibility friendly, in partnership with the Student Access Collective (SAC) at the TMSU.
To honour everyone's time, space, and safety, each session has a maximum capacity. Students may only attend one session, capacity is subject to be filled on a first come first serve basis. Successful students will be emailed and given the location of the event along with their designated timeslot.
