Overview

Dr. Gedeon is a highly-regarded entrepreneurship educator and expert who has founded or led over a dozen private, public, venture capital and non-profit organizations; published over 100 articles, reports and patents; and delivered over 100 public speaking engagements and on-line videos on personal leadership, success, motivation, negotiation, entrepreneurship, experiential learning and best practices in teaching.

Steve has won over 20 awards including the President’s Award of Teaching Excellence, Experiential Teaching Award, and the USASBE National Award for Entrepreneurial Experiential Education Best Practices. His student teams have won over 35 regional and national entrepreneurship championships through empowering others in need and running some of the largest student-run social entrepreneurship programs in the world.

Dr. Gedeon has broad experience in designing and delivering entrepreneurship curricula, programs, courses, and high-impact workshops in North America and Europe including an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management in Germany, National Angel Capital Organization Educational Program in Canada, and the Ryerson Entrepreneur Institute – a global leader in student experiential learning and winner of the Canadian Urban Institute’s Prosperity Leadership Award.

Dr. Gedeon is an AACSB accredited member of the graduate faculty with an active research program and supervision of PhD candidates. His research interests include best practices in entrepreneurship education, assessment of learning outcomes, design and assessment of entrepreneurship program objectives, values, personal motivation and trust.

Steve teaches the experiential capstone courses in entrepreneurship and has taught first year university courses, graduate courses, large classrooms and distance education. His audiences have included university professors, CEOs, angel investors, sales executives, shop floor personnel, HR professionals, aboriginals, at-risk youth and high school students. His on-line videos have reached over 200,000 people.

 “How to Write a Business Plan” Added Experiential Learning and added rapid prototyping business model design tool – The Business Model Canvas. Changed textbook and removed multiple choice tests. Added a series of assignments and presentations that build into the business plan.
ENT 727  “Advanced Project Management in an organizational context – Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)” Developed and taught this pilot program as a group variant of ENT 727 for a class of 25. Each individual’s final deliverable report included how their position or program within SIFE matched with the organization’s mission, targets, goals and deliverables. Included self-reflective and goal-setting assignments.
ENT 730  “Entrepreneurial Organizational Appraisal I” Capstone course for the entrepreneurship major. Included substantial course redevelopment to implement entrepreneurship competency model and integrative challenge program. New teaching innovations include videotaping all classes, on-line collaboration platform (ePresence), on-line collaborative textbook system, forming student union, self-reflective learning assessment, new group assessment methods, and various experiential learning pedagogies.
ENT 830  “Entrepreneurial Organizational Appraisal II” Capstone course for the entrepreneurship major. Included substantial course redevelopment to implement Dobson Foundation Micro-finance Seed Venture Fund Challenge. Raised $30,000 venture fund to loan students funds to start their own businesses to implement experiential learning pedagogies.

 “New Venture Startup for Non-Business Students”. Pilot tested the ability to offer more experiential components of this course – replaced the mid-term and final exams with group presentations and incremental graded assignments that build up to the final business plan.
ITM 360 “Establishing an eBusiness Operation”. Included substantial course redevelopment to integrate innovation, IT, management, and personal success skills into this capstone course for the eBusiness Minor and eBusiness Certificate programs.
