BSW Field Placement Requirements

Student work on display

Once you are offered a placement by TMU’s School of Social Work, you must ask the site about its placement protocols. These may include:

If the organization asks you for a police record check/clearance letter, you must request one from the Toronto Police Service or from your local police service. You are responsible for covering the cost of the letter, unless the organization indicates otherwise.

If the organization asks you to complete a vulnerable sector screening (external link)  (VSS) by the Toronto Police Service, it should provide you with the appropriate form. If you don’t live in Toronto, contact your local police service about obtaining a VSS. You are responsible for covering the cost of the VSS, unless the organization indicates otherwise. For more questions about police reference checks, you can contact the Field Education Office.

If the organization asks you to submit specific medical tests or proof of immunization, you can complete these tests with your family doctor or at TMU’s Medical Centre. The organization should provide you with the appropriate forms to take with you to the doctor. You are responsible for covering the cost to obtain medical tests.
