BSW Field Placement Process

Student work on display

The School of Social Work follows a rigorous process to ensure your placement is a good fit for you. The school’s Field Education Office facilitates this process in three key time periods:

The office will email information to your Toronto Metropolitan University account about field placement options and the placement process for the next academic year.

This is when you give the office information about your placement preferences using the online placement database. You can access your profile for a limited time, so make sure to enter all the required information by the deadline. If you fail to meet the deadline, it could jeopardize your eligibility for a placement.

The process for matching students with placements will take place from January to August (in the academic year before your placement year begins). If you have submitted all of your required information by the deadline, you will be contacted about potential matches during this time period.

Check your Toronto Metropolitan University email account at least once every three days and make sure to respond to emails from the office by its specified timelines. If you fail to respond to the office on time, you may jeopardize your eligibility to complete a Field Practicum (SWP 36A/B or SWP 51A/B) and co-requisite Social Work Practice Course (SWP 301 or SWP 50A/B).
