Workshop Titles and Descriptions

Foundational 2D Design

Analog and digital forms of representation are taught through hand drawing and digital drawing with computer software such as CAD and Rhino; introduction to orthographic projection and perspective drawing.

  • Foundations of hand drawing with emphasis on representing spatial environments
  • Introduction to orthographic projection (plan, section, elevation, axonometric)
  • Introduction to foundations of perspective
  • Learning the basics of AutoCAD and Rhino
  • What you will not get: the above are introductions to different forms of representation using both analog and digital representation.  As an introduction, the basics as an entry point to using these will be conveyed, but not proficiency in any of the above.

Foundational 3D Design

Emphasis on model-making skills using the Interior Design Workshop. Skill development includes introduction to materials, machinery, tools and equipment for shaping 3D forms to assist in visualizing 3D spaces.

  • Foundations of model-making skills using materials such as millboard, museum board, cardstock, and similar materials
  • Learning how to shape and craft materials with an emphasis on hand-modeling, using tools such as paper cutters, utility and x-acto knives, mitre shears and specialty equipment
  • Understanding scalar applications with architectural scales and 3D model typologies
  • Translating 2D design from the representation workshop into 3D design
  • What you will not get: emphasis will be on working between 2D and 3D and materializing these forms through analog tools in the School of Interior Design Workshop. A brief introduction to digital tools will be provided but participants will not gain proficiency or expertise in the workshop.
