From the Provost and Vice-President, Academic

Kelly MacKay recently completed her term as vice-provost, academic. During her four year term, she made exceptional contributions to the Office of the Vice Provost, Academic and to the university. In her role, she advanced equity initiatives, expanded the services provided by her office, and demonstrated an exceptional commitment to and support for her team.

An accomplished scholar and academic leader, Kelly joined Toronto Metropolitan University in 2011. After serving as the interim associate vice-president, research and innovation, as well as associate dean, research and graduate programs at the Ted Rogers School of Management, Kelly was appointed vice-provost, academic in 2018.

Throughout her tenure, Kelly has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and a steadfast commitment to the university community, particularly during one of the most challenging times in our university’s history. As we adjusted to remote —and eventually hybrid— learning and teaching, Kelly led with compassion and was instrumental in ensuring faculty, contract lecturers, students and staff were supported meaningfully and efficiently.

An advocate for pedagogical innovation, academic integrity, and equitable learning and teaching, Kelly’s dedication to the student learning experience can be seen in her leadership of the Keep Teaching Taskforce, as well as her oversight of the launch of the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching

I want to express my sincere gratitude to Kelly for her support and unwavering leadership. She has been a trusted advisor, inspiration and mentor to many. Her friendly and respectful approach, as well as her focus on collaboration and innovation, has been key in championing Toronto Metropolitan’s values of excellence, mutual respect and shared success.
