Justine Garrett

Contract Lecturer

Justine Garrett is a writer, producer, and director, specializing in impactful narratives across new and linear media. She co-founded Toasterlab, a media production company, where she creates place-based XR and immersive experiences. Her work includes Groundworks, a documentary about California Native artist-activists that aired on PBS, and the Emmy Award-winning documentary No Greater Love about organ donation. She directed and produced the research-based kids’ series Captain Me, which is taught in New York City Public Schools.

Justine has taught at Toronto Metropolitan University, CalArts, and University of TorontoMississauga, and she has developed academic programs for CalArts and York University. Her work has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Toronto Arts Council, Vision Maker Media, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. She holds a BA in Psychology from UCLA and an MFA in Creative Writing from CalArts. She participated in the CFC Digital Entertainment Connect Program and is a graduate of The Second City Conservatory in Toronto.
