HISTORY STUDENT AWARD WINNERS 2024
HISTORY STUDENT AWARD WINNERS 2024
Each spring the TMU Department of History presents awards (with cash prizes) to deserving students at all four levels of study – from the History Student Entrance Award, to the Gold Medal for the graduating student with the highest CPGA. Some awards are conferred automatically by the department, while others require an application or nomination.
Graduating History Major Ben Radovitzky was a multiple winner this year. In reflecting on his time at TMU, Ben remembers returning to in-person classes following the Covid lockdown to find “students and professors united over a common love of historical inquiry and critical thought.” An active participant in the department’s extra-curricular activities, Ben notes that “It was a great joy for me to have a hand in rebuilding this community with the wonderful folks in the History course union.” He calls the TMU History program “the best in the GTA” because of professors’ concerns to help advance students’ careers, noting that their support for course union-organized events, as well as their willingness to chat after class, extend their office hours, write recommendation letters, and, in fact, offer “really anything their students needed,” thereby helping history students “graduate with the ability to help shape the world.”
Ash Haslett Cuff is another multiple award winner from this year’s graduating cohort. She cites the flexibility of the History program as a key to her success at TMU, because it allowed her “to explore my own interests, and focus through the completion of a dissertation and numerous research papers written over the course of my BA. It also allowed me to feel confident and excited about pursuing history at a Master’s level, and led me to consider a career in academia.”
