Omar Abdelgawad

Elected by Students - September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2024

My name is Omar Abdelgawad, and I am a passionate advocate for social change and community empowerment. My journey began at Toronto Metropolitan University, where I embarked on my undergraduate studies in Politics and Governance, with a minor in Criminology. Equipped with a solid foundation in these fields, I am now a second-year law student at Lincoln Law, pursuing my passion for making a lasting impact in the legal realm. During my time at TMU, I recognized the pressing barriers faced by deserving youth affected by poverty. Motivated by my commitment to create positive change, I took the initiative to establish a non-profit organization called "Building Leaders for Change" in Regent Park. Through this organization, I provide vital resources, support, and leadership development opportunities to empower young individuals and expand their horizons. Understanding the significance of amplifying young voices, I formed a strategic partnership with the Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) to establish a youth council. This council tackles critical community issues, with a particular focus on resolving the strained relationships between the Toronto Police Service and TCHC communities. By nurturing the leadership skills of the youth involved, we aim to foster positive change in our communities. My work in the community has underscored the need for effective leadership and representation of the true voice of the people. Recognizing this, I am determined to continue making a meaningful difference as a member of the Board of Governors for the TMU student body. With unwavering dedication to honour, integrity, and the collective voice, I strive to ensure that the concerns and aspirations of fellow students are not only heard but also acted upon. Together, we can shape a brighter future and cultivate an inclusive campus environment where everyone's voice is valued.
