Author Survey Project 2: Online Harassment & its Implications for Explanatory Journalism

According to a representative survey of U.S. journalists conducted by Lewis et al. (2020), nearly all journalists experience at least some online harassment. Considering the previous research insights, this study aims to (1) assess the nature of online harassment directed at Conversation authors and (2) explore their responses. As Conversation authors are not professional journalists, their responses may differ from those in previous studies. Accordingly, this study will enrich our understanding of online hate in an increasingly fragmented public sphere.
